About the Project

The US 98 Project Development and Environment (PD&E) study evaluated proposed improvements to US 98 in Highlands County. The project limits are from US 27 to East of Airport Road (now Taylor Haywood Boulevard) in Highlands County, a distance of approximately 4.6 miles. The proposed improvements include widening US 98 from two lanes to four lanes.

Need for the Project
The need for the proposed widening of US 98 is reflected in the adopted Highlands County Comprehensive Plan, as a part of policy 3.8: Transportation Projects Determined as Highest Priorities. The need is also indicated by traffic volumes projected to increase from the current volume of 6,400 to 7,700 vehicles per day to 15,700 to 25,100 vehicles per day by the year 2036.

Project Funding
Design funding for this project is programmed in the FDOT's Adopted Five-Year Work Program for fiscal year 2018-2019. At this time, right-of-way acquisition and construction are not funded.
